Dakota Johnson was interviewed by her co-star of “materialists” Pedro Pascal for her UK and spoke of her cut by her father, actor Don Johnson, when she did not enter Juilliard. Johnson did not have a rescue plan at university, any more than the acts of actor that she could book at the time large enough to make her ring financially.
“I did not enter and my father cut me because I did not go to university. So, I started to hear. I think I was 19 when I did “the social network”, then small jobs and things after that, “said Johnson. “For a few years, it was difficult to earn money. There were a few times when I would go to the market and I would not have money on my bank account or that I could not pay rent, and I should ask for help from my parents.
“I am very grateful to have parents who could help me and helped me. But it was certainly not fun,” she added. “The hearing process, as you know, is the fucking worst.”
Applying in Julliard was also a nightmare for Johnson, who described Pascal: “This fucking process was so horrible and terrifying. When you are accepted for a hearing, it is one thing of two days of choir. You are supposed to be recalled for a second hearing, and I did not do it.
“I really didn’t want to go to university,” she said. “And because Juilliard felt so small – the idea of being in a classroom with the same group of people, and to find out how to be a human in this environment, after having grown surrounded by so many different types of people and immersed in different cultures while traveling everywhere … It felt really bad to block me in the same place.”
