The Czech Republic head into their final Euro 2024 game knowing nothing less than a victory in their bid to qualify from Group F and reach the Euro round of 16 for the third team in the last four tournaments .

Ivan Hasek’s side have picked up just one point from their first two matches, the first seeing them take the lead over a highly-rated Portuguese side before conceding a 92nd-minute winner, the leaving with nothing to show for the match.

In their second outing, they came from behind to take a point against Georgia in a match where they were favorites, and now find themselves in a must-win situation ahead of their final match against Turkey in Hamburg on Wednesday evening.

Quarter-finalists in this competition three years ago, the Czechs traveled to Germany after five consecutive victories and will be desperate to avoid a premature return to the border tomorrow evening.

Turkey currently sit second in the group with three points to their name after their 3-1 win over Georgia on matchday one, which preceded their 3-0 defeat to Portugal last weekend.

A draw would be enough for Vincenzo Montella’s side to progress to the last 16 of a major competition for the first time since reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2008.

Even a one-goal loss would be enough for the Crescent Stars to advance, although it would mean qualifying as one of the better third-seeded teams and facing a tougher task on paper in the Round of 16.

Turkey’s opening day victory over Georgia was their only victory in their last seven matches in all competitions dating back to last year, and their defeat against Portugal on Saturday means they have now lost four of their six last matches.

The two nations have faced each other 11 times before Wednesday night’s match, with an even record of five matches each.

The most recent meeting took place in a friendly match in Gaziantep in November 2022, in which Turkey won 2-1.
