India’s Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal at CWG 2022
Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal with a combined lift of 212kg in the women’s 71kg final at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Monday. Nigerian weightlifter Joy Ogbonne Eze failed in all three of her attempts in the clean and jerk event, meaning Harjinder Kaur became India’s ninth medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. England’s Sarah Davies won a gold medal.
Harjinder Singh hit all of his attempts in the clean and jerk. On her third attempt, she lifted 119kg to bring her total to 212kg (93kg 119kg).
In his first attempt in the Snatch category, Harjinder failed to lift 90 kg. In the second attempt in the category, she finally managed to lift 90 kg. On her third and final attempt, she lifted 93 kg breaking her personal best.
In the Clean and Jerk category, she managed to lift 113 kg. In the second attempt of the category, she lifted 116 kg without breaking a sweat. She improved on her last attempt and successfully lifted 119 kg.
Earlier on the third day of the Games, Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga clinched gold with a dominating performance in the men’s 67kg weightlifting event. While Achinta Sheuli ended day three on a high for India with gold in the 73kg event.
