Crystal Palace 3-0 Manchester United LIVE: Casemiro criticized for ‘absolutely atrocious defending’ as Mitchell makes three

Manchester United’s quest for European football continues this evening against Crystal Palace, live on talkSPORT.

The Red Devils are locked in an intense battle for a Europa League place with Newcastle and Chelsea, while they could still catch Tottenham in fifth.

However, a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley was far from ideal, and after Newcastle and Chelsea won, they are now eighth.

Meanwhile, Palace look like a transformed team in recent weeks under the management of Oliver Glasner.

The Eagles are unbeaten in four, winning their last two at home, so this will be far from an easy match for Erik ten Hag’s side.

  • AIM!! Crystal Palace 4-0 Man United Michael Olise

66′ – WHAT A SURPRISING OLISE BUT WOW CASEMIRO AGAIN BY FAULT!

The hapless Brazilian is caught by Munoz dragging on the ball, which leaves United tense.

He pulls it back for Olise who finds the top corner with a brilliant curled effort.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “If Man United had that XI suited to Arsenal, I would be worried about them.”

  • Crystal Palace 3-0 Man United

65′ – Hojlund falls in the box but no penalty is awarded!

The United striker is convinced he was tripped by Andersen after playing a one-two for Mainoo, but his protests are ignored.

  • Crystal Palace 3-0 Man United

63′ – That’s now 20 goals conceded in eight games for Man United.

    More problems for Ten Hag…

  • Crystal Palace 3-0 Man United

61′ – Ten Hag responds to three delays by bringing on Amrabat for Antony.

Murphy said: “I commend Ten Hag for that…his attitude – whining at everyone…well done Ten Hag. You may lose, but you don’t throw your arms in the air at your teammates.”

  • AIM!! Crystal Palace 3-0 Man United – Tyrick Mitchell

58′ – BUT THAT DOESN’T MATTER – MITCHELL MAKES THREE!

Palace play the second corner short and Wharton remains unmarked on the edge of the box to straighten out a deep cross which Andersen attacks.

He fights with Dalot who inadvertently heads the ball towards goal where Mitchell is on hand to head home.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

58′ – Superb double save from Onana!

He strikes first behind Mitchell’s fierce strike at his near post before the resulting corner falls to Hughes on the edge.

The latter sends a deft half-volley over a crowd of bodies and Onana flies to put it behind for another corner.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

57′ – So delicious from Eze and Olise but the first shoots wide!

Eze taunts Eriksen as he makes a pass in the corner to his wing partner who takes Casemiro out of the play with a sumptuous back-heel pass.

Eze breaks away from Eriksen in the box, but then unusually opens his body and shoots wide of the target.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

55′ – That’s now two goals that Casemiro has ruled out this evening.

The first was controversially called off for a foul against Hojlund and would have been his as the striker never made contact with the ball.

But no doubt about his second – clearly offside!

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United – NO GOAL!

    53′ – YOU COULDN’T WRITE IT!

CASEMIRO HAS THE BALL IN THE NET BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO COUNT!

Eriksen floats in a free kick from the edge of the box which an unmarked Casemiro rises to loft a header against the post.

It happens to him to tap home, but just as he collects the ball for a quick restart, he times the offside flag.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

51′ – First shot on target for the visitors!

This comes from Antony who cuts inside and bends an effort towards goal but it’s a fairly simple save for Henderson who latches on to it.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

    49′ – Eze shoots Onana!

More horrible defending from the visitors as a long ball from Henderson catches Wan-Bissaka with Munoz running behind him.

He waits for the overlapping run from Cylne who catches an unmarked Eze at the penalty spot but his shot lacks real conviction.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

47′ – Casemiro tries to play quarterback for the Red Devils as his long raking ball finds no one but Henderson in his own zone.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

46′ – United were sent off early by Ten Hag after a brief break, but surprisingly no changes from either side.

Eriksen restarts us: can visitors find any answer?

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

Arsenal have become the kings of set pieces under the tutelage of specialist coach Nicolas Jover but Man Utd… not so much!

Murphy blasted one of United’s players during the break: “I don’t know if he’s a set-piece man, maybe he’s a cone man.”

Durham added: “Maybe it’s in his cone-tract!”

  • “Nothing can be worse than Casemiro”

More from Carragher on Olise’s goal: “It’s embarrassing of Casemiro, it’s not about him as a defensive midfielder, he was so bad he had to come off.

“Nothing can be worse than Casemiro in central defense. Put Wan-Bissaka in the middle.”

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

Carragher on Casemiro told Sky Sports: “They need to get him out.

“There can’t be anything worse in this second half than Casemiro in central defense, put Wan-Bissaka there.”

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

Durham: “Have you ever seen a Manchester United team defend so poorly? They were shocking.”

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

Jean-Phillipe Mateta has scored nine goals in his 11 Premier League games under Oliver Glasner, having scored 11 goals in his previous 80 games in the competition for the Eagles.

    A man reborn!

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

    BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

That familiar sound of greeting a Mateta goal rang loud again in south London this evening.

His powerful strike doubled the club’s lead after Olise’s dazzling opener and Palace made full use of their lead.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United HALF TIME

A roar inside Selhurst Park greets the half-time whistle as the Eagles go into the break with a commanding lead.

    Reaction to follow…

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

47′ – The visitors are content to play from behind, desperate to wait out the half-time whistle without much further damage.

They end up turning it over with a nasty long ball which Richards returns in kind to release Eze over the top.

The Englishman looks to solve the problem for Olise after being played in by Evans, but his pass is overshot.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

45′ – Three minutes into injury time as Clyne looks to create a third with a marauding run down the right.

But as he steps in, the former Liverpool defender runs out of steam and his weak cutback is cleared before he reaches the deck.

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

44′ – Jean-Phillipe Mateta scored in each of Oliver Glasner’s first six Premier League home games, becoming the first player to do so in the competition since Alan Shearer for Kevin Keegan in 1996-97 (first 9 ).

    What a turnaround!

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

43′ – Ten Hag as sullen as the traveling fans!

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Man United

41′ – Murphy told talkSPORT: “Jonny Evans’ tackle was awful and the goalkeeper, I don’t know what he’s doing… it’s weird defending against Evans. Decent strike but it can’t go in from there.

“And Evans, he’s an experienced player, you can’t just pass up a leg.”
