We are in the summer doldrums at the moment, as two new arrivals have both failed to arrive.

Zoe Kravitz’s thriller “Blink Twice” grossed $2.9 million on Friday, before ranking fourth in the U.S. on its opening weekend of $7.1 million. With a budget of just $20 million and limited market spending, the film should do just fine.

“The Crow,” on the other hand, appears to have the bird flu. The reboot of the supernatural thriller franchise opened at No. 8 with $2 million on Friday, before generating $4 million to $5 million in three days.

That falls short of already modest expectations for a film that received scathing reviews and a disappointing B- rating from audiences. Combined with a $50 million budget, it’s a bomb.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to lead this weekend with an additional $17.8 million in its fifth weekend, while “Alien: Romulus” is in second place with $16 million in its third weekend.

“It Ends With Us” is third with $11.9 million, and Sony’s religious title “The Forge” is fifth with $6.4 million. The re-release of “Coraline” also continues to do well with $5.1 million and $24.1 million in revenue so far.
