CrossWorlds will use “the full capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2”

The Nintendo Switch 2 missed out on the recent launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka says the game will utilize “the full capabilities” of the system.

Technically, you can play the title on Nintendo’s latest console thanks to backwards compatibility with the Switch 1 version. However, there should be some benefits to the proper Nintendo Switch 2 version.

In an interview with Traxion, Iizuka said the following:

“We wanted to release the Switch 2 version at the same time (like the other platforms). But since the console release date was later, we wanted to make sure we could deliver a game that optimized the new console.

When looking at the content that will be offered, there is no difference between the Switch 1 and Switch 2 games. It will not be a 100% replica due to differences in hardware specifications.

Iizuka didn’t elaborate on what we can expect from the frame rate and resolution on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, an improvement in performance would be much appreciated. On Nintendo Switch, the game runs at just 30 frames per second.

Iizuka noted that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers “the same experience with the same content” on both Nintendo consoles. “I think our users can expect to see the game on Switch 2,” he said.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be on Nintendo Switch 2 this year with a physical version planned for early 2026 – with the full game on the cartridge. In the meantime, fans can grab the game on the previous Nintendo Switch. We have a review of this version here.
