Croc’s Switch Remaster returns this week with a free “Platinum Edition” update

Argonaut Games has announced that its Croc remaster will receive a major update. It’s officially titled Fang Legend of the Gobbos: Platinum Edition.

This free update will be applied to console versions of the game (including Switch) on October 16, 2025 and promises to deliver the “best Croc gaming experience possible.”

The Platinum Edition of the game will include a new Time Attack mode, over 25 additions to Crocipedia, the ability to switch between main Croc theme mixes in the main menu, bug fixes, and a bunch of features and quality of life improvements.

The team also explains how the name change ties into PlayStation’s trophy system. This same update adds a new set of trophies and will also bring these same achievements to the Switch (including its own “in-game achievement tracker screen”).

“So why this new name? Excellent question! When we launched the Legend Fang of the Gobbos remaster, We did not include enough trophies to qualify for the Platinum trophy on PlayStation. And it is not allowed to simply fix this problem with a hotfix. So we had to come up with a smarter solution: release a new version of the game with a comprehensive trophy set, including 16 new trophies and the coveted Platinum Trophy.”

Again, this update will be released later this week for the Switch. You can learn more about this title in our Nintendo Life review:

“Croc: Legend of the Gobbos wasn’t exactly a groundbreaking entry in the 3D platforming genre even upon release, and while it still doesn’t necessarily wow us today, it’s certainly an entertaining and interesting adventure. Things like the new controls, improved presentation, and expanded museum content are satisfying additions, and the main adventure itself is still a good retro 3D platformer, warts and all.”
