Critics of “Minecraft” films are underway, and a billion dollars transport is near

I’m not sure I have seen worse trailers than the spots that have spread to a Minecraft film, the live hybrid of the famous video game with Jack Black and Jason Momoa. Now criticism is in what looked like a likely disaster of a film and they are … Honestly, better than expected.

No, the film Minecraft did not reach “fresh” among the criticisms, but it has a score of 53%, a Coinflip on which the criticisms loved it and which did not do it. The trailer told me that it did not look like a film that would attract a greater than 20%, but there would be chemistry between Black and Momoa, a large Jennifer Coolidge sub -intry, and there are enough fun integrations with the game to be pleasant, bad green screens or otherwise.

Why do I believe that Minecraft is heading for a billion dollars at the box office despite intermediary criticism? Two main reasons:

• It is Minecraft, we are talking about, the mostly sold literal game in the history of time, moving around 300 million units since its beginnings in 2011, becoming an essential childhood of millions of children around the world as they have grown up, and it remains extremely popular to date. And Minecraft fans do not hide the quality of green screens in a trailer. They see their beloved world, they see Jack Black being silly, they see Jason Momoa in a funny outfit and that’s enough. Estimates, estimates, the estimates have the opening weekend of $ 135 million to $ 150 million worldwide with a budget of $ 150 million.
• Second, that’s almost exactly what happened with the film Super Mario Bros. The animated function which had criticism scores almost identical to 59%, but a score of the 95% audience among fans who were always going to love the film (certainly somewhat average) whatever happens. Super Mario Bros. won $ 1.3 billion worldwide. Although Mario is a massive video game icon, do not underestimate how Minecraft itself is among a certain generation (or two).
