Cristiano Ronaldo could extend Al Nassr’s stay for another year

Cristiano Ronaldo could extend his contract with Al Nassr for another year, with his current deal set to expire in 2025, according to talkSPORT.

Ronaldo has agreed a lucrative deal worth €200m (£177m) a year in 2022, which is set to expire next year, but it is possible he could stay for another year.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee & Jacobs Show, talkSPORT Saudi Pro League correspondent Ben Jacobs revealed how the 39-year-old could extend his contract.

Cristiano Ronaldo sent off for appearing to elbow rival before being taunted with Lionel Messi chant

It came amid talk that the Saudi Pro League was considering a move for Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes to continue his strong presence in Portugal, which was built by Ronaldo.

“2025 is a really key year in Saudi Arabia for two reasons,” Jacobs said.

“Firstly, because Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract is expiring, although I understand he could renew it for another year.

“And secondly, the television rights are up for renewal and, as you can imagine, in Egypt with Mohamed Salah and in Portugal with Ronaldo and/or Bruno Fernandes, there could well be big audiences and lucrative renewals to be achieved.

“Depending on whether Ronaldo stays, whether Fernandes joins and whether Salah arrives, and therefore the next 12 months will be about planning who is going to resonate with the international audience.

“I’m told Saudi negotiators want another big-name star from Portugal because they’ve built an audience through Ronaldo.

“If Fernandes comes in 2025 or, potentially but less likely, 2024, then that’s a continuation, which means maybe you’ll keep that audience and benefit from that audience when the renewal comes in 12 months. “

Ronaldo has enjoyed great success since moving to Saudi Arabia following his acrimonious exit from Old Trafford.

In 66 matches, he scored 62 times, including 47 in 44 league matches.

The five-time Ballon d’Or’s arrival also paved the way for other big European names, including Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez.

But at 39, Ronaldo could be running out of gas and when his contract expires in 2025, he will be 41 – and the prospect of another year would only push that further.
