Cristiano Ronaldo could end Chelsea’s famous curse as Gary Neville warns Manchester United transfer saga must be dealt with quickly

Gary Neville has warned Manchester United to deal quickly with the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.

The Portuguese sensation, 37, has asked to leave the club this summer, with Chelsea and Barcelona among clubs considering an offer.

Sorting out Ronaldo’s future set to dominate United’s summer

Ronaldo has failed to show up for United training in recent days, citing family reasons, raising fears he could miss the club’s pre-season tour.

However, talkSPORT understands the Premier League side are unwilling to sell their star striker, who has one year left on his current contract.

Ronaldo is believed to be a key part of new manager Erik ten Hag’s plans as the Dutchman seeks to rebuild a failing squad at Old Trafford.

United have decided to complete deals for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia and free agent Christian Eriksen, while continuing to pursue Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

Neville insists the saga surrounding Ronaldo cannot harm Ten Hag’s first few months at the club.

“The only significant factor with Ronaldo’s situation is that it is dealt with decisively and quickly,” Neville tweeted.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 37 games for United last season

“This cannot be a saga that distracts from ETH bedding over the next two months.”

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is reportedly interested in signing Ronaldo after meeting his agent Jorge Mendes.

The Blues have yet to decide to pounce – and the club will face another big call if they do: what shirt number would Ronaldo wear?

Edinson Cavani vacated United’s No.7 shirt for Ronaldo when he returned to Old Trafford – and there’s every chance the nicest man in football, N’Golo Kante, will do the same at Stamford Bridge.

However, despite his whole brand being connected to the No.7, Ronaldo could be tempted by another number should he join Chelsea.

The No.9 shirt is available following Romelu Lukaku’s loan spell at Inter Milan – after the Belgian became the latest player to struggle to wear this shirt for the Blues.

Ronaldo’s stats from the 2009/10 season suggest the No.9 shirt could suit him

It’s a well-known curse that dates back years – claiming victims such as Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain.

Ronaldo wore the No.9 for one season – in the 2009/10 campaign – during his time at Real Madrid and statistics suggest he could be the man to break Chelsea’s curse.

In 35 games, the Portuguese superstar has scored 33 goals and registered seven assists.
