Crews are battling a 200-acre fire that broke out Saturday afternoon at Camp Pendleton.
The Roblar Fire started around 2 p.m. in the Zulu impact area on the base near Case Springs Road, five miles from Fallbrook and about 6 1/2 miles from Oceanside.
The fire broke out in the center of Camp Pendleton at a time when temperatures were around 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius). Wind gusts of up to 20 mph (32 km/h) helped spread the fire, which produced a towering column of smoke heading northeast.
Around 3:45 p.m., Camp Pendleton officials issued a smoke advisory via X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that “smoke may be visible, but there is currently no threat to personnel or structures.”
The North County Fire Protection District, which serves the communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall and Rainbow, also said there is currently no threat to its district.
According to Cal Fire, the fire was zero percent contained as of 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
