Crane catches fire near Walt Whitman Bridge in Gloucester, NJ – NBC10 Philadelphia

A large crane caught fire near the Walt Whitman Bridge in Gloucester City, New Jersey.

The fire – which authorities believe to be electrical in origin – occurred on an industrial crane near a ship at the Gloucester City Terminal, 160 Essex Street, around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire did not spread to the ship or elsewhere, a terminal spokesperson said.

As plumes of smoke rose toward the nearby Walt Whitman Bridge, traffic did not appear to be affected and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control shortly before 11:30 a.m.
