Craig Bellamy will not join Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, with the Burnley boss set to be named the Bundesliga giants’ new boss.

Kompany is expected to join the Bundesliga giants despite the 38-year-old overseeing Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, winning just five games all season.

The former Wales international was Kompany’s assistant for five years, joining his former Man City teammate at Anderlecht and following him at Burnley.

Together, the pair have helped deliver a hugely impressive Championship campaign in 2022-23, with Burnley returning to the top flight as champions with 101 points, although their young, inexperienced side has fallen apart this season.

Mail Sport can, however, exclusively reveal that Bellamy will not be joining Bayern, where Kompany is expected to take charge.

Bayern’s search for Thomas Tuchel’s successor saw Xabi Alonso, former head coach Julian Nagelsmann and former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick turn down the role.

The German giants had even tried to entice Tuchel to stay after announcing his departure three months ago, but those half-hearted talks failed to bring about a change of heart.

Bayern turned to Kompany and held discussions with Burnley chairman Alan Pace on Wednesday over compensation, hoping to agree a deal in the coming days.

The Burnley board had placed great faith in the Belgian and entrusted him with considerable power, particularly in the recruitment department.

He had spent over £90 million on new players during the season, although these reinforcements could not stem the tide of defeats as Burnley won only five games during the Championship season 2023-24.
