Cowboys’ Dak Prescott – Preventative walking shoes fit ‘really well’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said Tuesday he has no issues with his right ankle and is wearing walking boots only as a precaution.

Prescott was seen wearing hiking boots while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in a photo posted to X last week. On Tuesday, at a youth football camp he runs in Southlake, Texas, Prescott said he was doing “really well.”

“Honestly, I’m getting older. It’s the same ankle that I broke, and I had a nasty surgery four years ago, so after a few days of hard training, you know, you’re in a little bit of pain and you go fishing, and you want to protect it and make sure it doesn’t get worse,” he said.

“Literally, it’s absolutely nothing. People project themselves, try to do things that they’re not. I’m getting older and I have to take care of my body, I have to be smart. If I can take precautions and mitigate something by putting a boot on, I will. Sorry to have caused so much concern.”

Prescott underwent season-ending surgery for a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in 2020 after suffering the injury in a Week 5 win against the New York Giants.

Prescott, 30, who is entering the final year of his $29 million contract through the 2024 season, also discussed his contract negotiations with the Cowboys. He said there have been “conversations back and forth” and that he is letting his agent handle the negotiations.

“The first day of training camp, my mind is obviously on helping my team and doing whatever I can do within the organization and on the football field to make sure that I’m at my best and everybody around me is at their best and that it’s all going to take care of itself like it always has,” he said.

The Cowboys hold their first camp practice on July 25.

Dallas is also in contract talks with Cowboys No. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb, who is a free agent after this season, has sat out the team’s offseason and mandatory minicamp because of his contract situation. Prescott, however, told reporters that he pitched to Lamb this offseason and will do so again before training camp, when he and the Cowboys’ receivers are scheduled to work out together.

“CeeDee will be ready,” Prescott said.
