Candidate: Deion Sanders

Current position: Head coach, Colorado
Status: A conversation reportedly took place between the Cowboys and Sanders, but it was only preliminary, as the former Cowboy and Hall of Fame resident was the first of several to receive a call. No formal interviews have been scheduled, but Sanders confirmed the initial conversation by extending it with his commitment to remaining, for now, in Boulder.

Candidate:Robert Saleh

Current position: Free agent
Status: There is also interest from other teams in Saleh, with the former heralded defensive coordinator of the 49ers having visited San Francisco for a possible reunion in this role, but also with the Raiders and the Jaguars for their head coaching vacancies. His separation in New York makes him a free agent capable of negotiating with any team. No date has currently been set for the interview with the Cowboys, but the two sides are expected to sit down soon, and likely later this week.

Candidate: Leslie Frazier

Current position: Assistant head coach, Seahawks
Status: Frazier and now-former Cowboys coordinator Mike Zimmer (his contract expired on January 14) have a few things in common. They are both former Vikings head coaches, with Zimmer being Leslie’s successor in Minnesota, and both cut their teeth as defensive minds in the NFL. A formal interview has reportedly been requested with Frazier, and the Seahawks cannot refuse the request because it involves a possible promotion. Frazier himself is expected to take up the offer to have a conversation with the Cowboys, and it appears he may have done so – with an interview scheduled for Monday, January 20.

Candidate: Kellen Moore

Current position: Offensive coordinator, Eagles
Status: Expected to receive a call from the Cowboys soon, also given Moore’s long-standing relationship as backup quarterback, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in Dallas, Moore was recently asked about the call pending – noting that he is focused on the ongoing playoffs in Philadelphia. but leaving the door open for a conversation.
