Trevor Noah, host of the Grammys this year, opened the show based in Los Angeles with a brief but meaning of introduction, calling the “unusual circumstances” underlying the show. The city has just experienced one of the greatest natural disasters in American history, and for a while, no one was sure if the show would continue.
He gave a cry to the “heroic efforts of the firefighters” and said that “the spirit of the city was emerged” before letting a group take over with a musical tribute.
Dawes interpreted a blanket of “I Love La” by Randy Newman, supported by John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard and St. Vincent.
Noah then continued his monologue, taking a lighter tone, as is usual for price discounts.
He launched a few playful blows to André 3000, who could not attend, to rotate flute music. Shortly after Beyoncé announced that she would take Cowboy Carter On the road, Noah joked saying that people could not afford another of his tours. He also joked by saying that if Taylor Swift had won the album of the year, breaking his own record for the number of victories in this category, the Swifies would continue.
“Speaking of history, the Beatles are nominated this evening for a record of the year. … I think that if they win this, it will open a few doors to them,” joked Noah.
Before throwing it to Billie Eilish for the second performance of the night, Noah made sure to note that “tonight is not only on music”. There are QR codes at each seat, where people can donate to support several charitable organizations bringing relief to the victims of forest fires.
Now with the show.
