Covid-19 in Brittany: 23,000 new cases in two weeks, the incidence rate drops sharply – Bretagne

“The epidemic peak linked to the ninth wave of Covid-19 seems to have now been crossed”, immediately indicates the ARS press release on the epidemic situation linked to Covid-19, this Tuesday, January 3. “Over the past two weeks, health indicators have declined significantly; incidence and positivity rates in particular”.
> 23,000 new contaminations in two weeks
Since December 20, 23,026 new positive cases have been recorded. As a reminder, during the last two weekly situation updates, ARS Brittany indicated just under 20,000 new cases, but over seven days.
> The sharp fall in the incidence rate
This is the indicator that has fallen the most. The incidence rate has fallen sharply in the past two weeks. It is 251.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, or 329 points less than on December 20. However, this rate is slightly above the national average, which is 226 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
> The positivity rate of tests in decline

> Hospitalizations remain at a high level
If all the indicators are encouraging, that of hospitalizations remains worrying. 476 people are currently hospitalized in the region, only 5 less than two weeks ago. “Hospitalizations for Covid reasons remain very high. Thus, hospitals, also impacted by other winter epidemics, have to deal with a significant increase in activity ”, worries ARS Bretagne.
In addition, 34 people are currently in intensive care, 1 more than two weeks ago. 3,507 patients have died in Brittany since the start of the epidemic, or 87 more since December 20.

> In the Côtes-d’Armor
3,845 new cases of Covid have been recorded in the Côtes-d’Armor since December 20, the lowest rate in Brittany. Furthermore, the incidence rate is 245 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (-315 points compared to the last point). The test positivity rate is 25.9%.
