A 79 -year -old man and his 77 -year -old wife died on Monday evening after the Toyota sedan he was driving was stopped on Interstate 8 at the Mesa and was struck in an accident of several vehicles, according to the office of the County Legalist.
James Allina and Rosalyn Allina, from the Mesa, led east to the highway when, for unknown reasons, their car became stationary with its lights off in the third lane near Fletcher Parkway, said the doctor’s office Legisist.
Around 7:20 p.m., a Dodge SUV being led by a 34 -year -old woman with a 4 -year -old boy who rides as a passenger could not see the Toyota and hit the car from behind, said California officials Highway Patrol.
A KIA sedan led by a 63 -year -old woman then struck the Dodge, according to the investigators. The Toyota was pushed into the far left path and the debris of the accident damaged a passing Mercedes.
Witnesses called 911 and withdrew the allinas from their car, officials said. Passers -by carried out rescue measurements until the arrival of paramedical paramedics.
James died before he could be taken to the hospital. Rosalyn was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died, said the medical examiner’s office.
The SUV woman and child were transported to Sharp Grossmont hospital for precautionary reasons. The KIA driver suffered minor injuries and the Mercedes driver was not injured.
It is not known if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.
