The Comté health and social services agency recognized 14 public health champions for their exceptional efforts to protect the health of residents in various communities throughout the county.
The prize was created in 2001 to highlight public / private collaborations that promote well-being throughout the county. Since then, nearly 500 public health champions, including groups and individuals, have been chosen in appointments within the framework of the National Public Health Week, which focuses on improving global public health.
The theme of this year is “it begins here”, developed by the American public Health Association to raise awareness that everyone can make a difference in the creation of healthier lives for themselves and the community.
Here is the range of public health champion in San Diego live in five categories of public health services prices for individuals and organizations at regional prices.
Public Health Services Suree
Veronica Whitehorse: The authorized nurse has engaged in the prevention of diseases and community well-being, works with the indigenous community of local American Indians and local Alaska, ensuring that patients receive medical care and that their cultural traditions are valued.
Dr Antoinette Marengo: Doctor, president elected for the American College of Obgyns and defender of equity in health that provides reproductive health care accessible for women in San Diego, Riverside and imperial counties, including the Navy Medical Center San Diego.
Health care division of the Defense Health Agency, team from the Pacific Region: Provides more than 20,000 vaccines administered monthly in more than 40 military immunization clinics in San Diego and supports army vaccination care throughout California and as regards Japan.
April Fernandez: I spent 30 years in public health management by emphasizing border border health in California Department of Public Health. Promotes cross -border health programs by connecting public health agencies, non -profit organizations, the university world and local communities to meet the challenges of border populations.
Medical care services – Sarah St. John: Dental hygienist and founder of All Smiles, a portable service of preventive dental hygiene that goes to poorly served communities, including military spouses and members of the homeless community.
Aging and independent services – Amy Abrams: Co -founded a home health agency to help people living in chronic conditions and their caregivers, has launched a memory coffee for people with dementia and works with the distribution of 911, hospitals and local care establishments on procedures aimed at reducing unnecessary emergency visits for the elderly and those with cognitive disorders.
Regional awards
North Coastal – Gabriela “Gaby” Beas Love: Helps vulnerable communities to access higher education and is currently working in Miracosta College.
North inside land – booming hinterland communities: Non-profit organizations establish partnerships to provide services, ranging from the pantry to RCR training and awareness of fentanyl, to rural communities and not made up of San Diego and have established the rural round table to unite community groups.
East County – David R. Shorey: Leader of public health which mobilized various groups to provoke environmental justice, human rights and the prevention of substances consumption and is based on the LGBTQ Advisory Council for the Sheriff’s Bureau of the ComtĂ©.
North Central – San Diego Military Family Collaborative: Strengthens the military community thanks to a support network of 200 public, private, confessional, military and government groups that provide resources.
South County – Karen Clay: A non -profit organization for food recovery in 2020 started which has recovered and distributed more than 3.8 million pounds of food and has prepared and delivered more than 111,000 meals to community members in need.
Central San Diego – Fern Street Community Arts: Promotes social change and the community through collaborative art.
Director Prize
Sharia closet: A non -profit organization based in San Diego which has provided free and emergency clothes and hygiene products to nearly 50,000 community members since 2013.
Foundation for care for the elderly: A non-profit organization based in Fallbrook which takes care of the physical and mental well-being of the elderly and adults living with disabilities; For example, offering 5,000 walks in its transport program.
