The Teamsters said on Sunday that their members at US retailer Costco Wholesale had voted in favor of a national strike, as they began a final round of negotiations to reach a new contract before a January 31 deadline.
The union, which represents more than 18,000 workers at Costco, said 85 percent of its members voted in favor of a strike.
“The vote is a direct result of the company’s continued failure to negotiate constructively,” the union said in an article on X, adding that the framework agreement between the two sides expires on January 31.
Costco did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside of normal business hours.
The final week of negotiations begins January 20, the union said in another X post.
