Costco has issued a recall for certain Kirkland brand severe cold and flu medications sold in some stores due to potential contamination, according to a notice on its website.
The recall comes amid a rise in viruses across the country and Illinois, including influenza, COVID, RSV, strep and norovirus.
The advisory, issued Jan. 2, 2025, states that Kirkland Signature Severe Cold and Flu Medication for Day and Night, item number 1729556, has been recalled in some locations. The items were sold between October 30, 2024 and November 30, 2024, the notice states.
The drugs were recalled “out of an abundance of caution” due to potential contamination with foreign materials by supplier LNK International Inc., the notice said. Officials say the recall was initiated after a shipment of the drug with lot code P140082 was “accidentally” released.
“Do not use any remaining product marked with the lot code above; return the item to your local Costco for a full refund,” the notice states.
According to the notice, the items were sold at select Costco stores in the Midwest and Southeast. No further details about the locations were provided and it was not immediately clear which stores were affected.
In addition to being posted on Costco’s website, the notice appeared to have been sent to Costco members who may have purchased the item.
