Cooler weather, the rain is going back to Los Angeles this week

A weak storm brought light rains in certain parts of the Los Angeles region on Sunday morning, with the potential of strong winds and thunderstorms later in the day.

After an unusually hot temperatures period, fresh weather and rain come back to the region this week. Sunday morning, it was clear along the coast and light rains fell into the center of Los Angeles and the Valleys, said Joe Sirard, a meteorologist of the National Weather Service.

The wet and cold weather comes just when celebrities meet for the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday afternoon at the Dolby Theater. The show starts at 4 p.m. PT.

Sirard said that the global rain total must be minimal with the current meteorological system, but that there is a chance for thunderstorms later Sunday around the city center of Los Angeles and in the valleys, mountains and deserts. There is also a high wind opinion, with gusts up to 40 mph along the ribs and up to 55 mph in the Antelope valley.

Snow is possible Sunday in the mountains, including north of Castaic along the I-5.

“There could be travel difficulties,” said Sirard.

For later this week, the National Weather Service predicted light to moderate precipitation on Monday, as well as Wednesday and Thursday while a second storm settles. The service said there was a very low risk of flow rate, and the level of snow varies between 3,500 and 5,000 feet.

The new storms come while California has experienced a significantly hot winter.

Friday, the state’s snowpack was 85% of the average for this period of the year. Lack of rain has contributed to fueling the Los Angeles County Forest Forest in January, an era when the fire season is generally over.
