Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough was hospitalized with a “serious health issue,” her office confirmed Tuesday.
Yarbrough is currently undergoing medical treatment, a spokesperson for his office said in a statement.
“Her family requests privacy and we ask for prayers for the Clerk and her family during this difficult time,” the statement said.
Further details on the condition were not immediately available.
Yarbrough was elected as the county’s first African-American and female clerk. Prior to that, she served as Cook County Recorder of Deeds and Deputy Majority Leader in the Illinois House of Representatives.
