Marine Le Pen, the chief of the far right of France and a leading candidate to become the next president of the country, was prevented from presenting himself to public functions for five years, after she and her party were found guilty of having diverted millions of euros in the European Union.
Ms. Le Pen, an anti -immigrant populist politician, was also sentenced to four years in prison – with two years suspended and two which could be signified in interior residence – and sentenced to a fine of 100,000 euros, or about $ 108,000. She has always denied any reprehensible act and will appeal to the verdict, which would put her prison sentence and the fine pending.
But the decision against Ms. Le Pen and his party, the national rally, threatens to ruin her plans to present herself to the presidency in 2027. She spent years trying to soften the image of her party and to move it in the dominant current by disavowing its anti -Semitic roots after having succeeded in his father as a leader of the extreme to the right of France.
Ms. Le Pen, 56, became the face of France far right after having taken control of the celebration in 2011 of her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen.
Ms. Le Pen sought to detoxify the political movement he built by softening some of his policies, modifying the name of the National Front party to the National Rally, publicly rejecting the anti -Semitism of her father – he was sentenced by a French Holocaust denial court for having affirmed the disused voters.
