Conservatives must not obey the laws

For the editor: It’s hard for me to imagine a more repugnant pardon than that granted by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to the convicted murderer of a Black Lives Matter protester.

But Abbott was only repeating the same message that former President Trump sent by pardoning so many convicted felons who were among his supporters: Laws are made to regulate the actions of progressives, not conservatives.

Got it. Something voters will remember in the next election.

For the editor: Tell me if I understood correctly.

In Texas, most residents are allowed to openly carry a firearm in public. But according to Gov. Abbott, Texans are also allowed to shoot anyone carrying a gun if that person approaches you, talks to you, or exhibits behavior that you believe requires you to “stand your ground.”

It’s wilder than the Wild West has ever been. Dodge City, Tombstone, Abilene, and Deadwood all had various forms of gun control that current supporters of the 2nd Amendment would vehemently claim were unconstitutional.

And they say California is full of crazy people.

For the editor: Abbott’s pardon is another example in this country of a white minority claiming to have a political philosophy.

Abbott and his ilk are not politicians, they are not leaders, and they certainly do not have the public interest in mind. Having control is their only motivation.
