A court of the United Arab Emirates sentenced three people to death for the murder of Zvi Kogan Israeli-Moldovan, state media reported on Monday.
The WAM news agency managed by the State announced the verdicts of the three after a trial at the security chamber of the Federal Court of Abu Dhabi. He indicated that a fourth person who helped the murder had been sentenced to life.
He did not identify the people billed. However, three Uzbek nationals had been arrested in Türkiye and brought back to the water during the murder in November.
“The accused had followed and murdered the victim,” said the WAM report. “The evidence presented by the continuation of state security in court included the detailed confessions of defendants on murder and kidnapping crimes, as well as medical-legal reports, post-dead exam conclusions, details of the instruments used in the testimonies of the crime and the witnesses.”
The water authorities have not offered a reason for the murder, nor any detail about how Kogan was kidnapped and killed. However, he came in the midst of the War of Israel-Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which ignited anger through the broader Muslim world.
The diplomatic ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates remained intact, although tense, by the war in Israel maintains a consulate in Dubai and an embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Although it does not blame Iran directly, Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others, refer to an “evil axis” being responsible for the murder of Kogan – a sentence Israel in the past used to refer to Iran and its allies.
The Iran Embassy in Abu Dhabi denied that Tehran was involved in the murder of the rabbi and the water itself did not allegate. However, Western officials believe that Iran directs water intelligence operations and keep an eye on the hundreds of thousands of Iranians living across the country.
The Iranian intelligence services also carried out kidnappings passed to water. Iran has also used criminal gangs in the past to target dissidents and its enemies.
Kogan, 28, an ultra-Orthodox rabbi, led a kosher grocery store in the futuristic city of Dubai, where the Israelis flocked for trade and tourism since the two countries forged diplomatic links in the Abraham 2020 agreements. The United Arab Emirates have an emerging Jewish community, with synagogues and companies Basic guests.
Kogan was an emissary of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, a prominent and very attentive branch of ultra-Orthodox Judaism based in the Brooklyn Crown Heights district in New York. He was buried in Israel.
Water is an autocratic federation of seven Sheikhdoms in the Arabian Peninsula and also houses Abu Dhabi. Capital affairs are rare in the country of 9 million people, but executions generally come quickly after the defendants have exhausted their calls. As a rule, water uses firing squads to execute the convicts.
