Conor McGregor may have had two epic fights with Nate Diaz, but the respect he has for rival’s older brother Nick is evident.
A photo of Nick visiting cancer patients at a California hospital was widely shared on social media and McGregor was among those impressed with his act of kindness.
McGregor devotes much of his time and money to helping charitable causes and upon seeing the photo he tweeted: “A true fighting legend.”
The Dubliner fought Nate twice in 2016, losing the first then winning the second and it’s one of the most lucrative rivalries in UFC history.
Many believe the pair will complete the trilogy before Nate leaves the UFC at the end of his current contract, which only has one fight left.
Despite the bad blood that repeatedly boiled between McGregor and younger sibling Diaz, Notorious always had respect for Nick. Prior to his tweet, he was full of praise for his fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in September last year.
“Nick/Rob was a good fight. The spinning kick early on gave Nick some ground, but he was made up of veterans and peppered some great shots,” he wrote.
“He just ate big body shots and there was more to come Robbie was strong for the body, it was veteran work all the way. I enjoyed
“The finishing sequence where the temple was cut off after the leg went through, the final blow escape, which was a searing uppercut, was magical.
“Look at this. Get down on one knee, watch where the shot was coming from, slide/parry and come back to open guard. Ala Daly fights.
Even praising Nick, McGregor couldn’t help but shoot Nate.
“Nate your boxing is piss compared to Nick’s. We’ve been fed garbage with your botched shots for the past few years.
“I can see the stark difference between the two brothers after last night. Balanced, calm. Another level, big brother is on you. I created you,” McGregor quipped.
McGregor seems to have grown up with Nick, given he admitted supporting him against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Although he is 38 years old and his fight against Lawler comes six years after his previous fight in the UFC, he is expected to fight again this year.
