Conor McGregor asks UFC for custom shorts after laughing at Max Holloway’s UFC 300 fight kit

Conor McGregor wants to wear custom US dollar shorts for his UFC return.

The Irishman came up with the idea after eyeing the floral shorts that Max Holloway will wear for his BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.

Photos of Holloway’s shorts, which feature a blue and red Hawaiian floral pattern, were shared online.

McGregor reacted to the striking look by commenting with a laughing emoji under a post showing his former foe’s fight kit for Saturday night.

Holloway clearly objected to McGregor’s comment when he spoke about it at UFC 300 media day on Wednesday.

“First of all you gotta ask Conor what he’s laughing at in your comment bro, go ask him what he’s laughing at,” Holloway said of the Instagram comment.

“I hope he can get some Lucky Charm shorts or something, good for him.”

Responding to Holloway’s comments in a now-deleted post on X, McGregor shared a fake photo of shorts covered in dollar bills, with the caption: “US dollar bill shorts for me.”

Holloway isn’t the only UFC 300 fighter to offer a custom fight kit.

Official UFC sponsor Venum has also made shorts with an indigenous Brazilian print for Alex Pereira, who will headline UFC 300 in his first light heavyweight title defense against Jamahal Hill .

Meanwhile, Holloway’s opponent Gaethje and UFC strawweight queen Weili Zhang have also been fitted with new equipment.

Gaethje will wear black shorts with the stars and stripes of the American flag with white and gray details while Zhang will pay homage to his home country of China with a red combat kit covered in dragons and other symbols of Chinese mythology.

As usual, his outfit also features gold trim fit for a champion.

Bryce Mitchell became the first fighter to wear unique shorts since the inception of the UFC’s infamous Reebok deal when he donned a camouflage pattern for his fight with Andre Fili at UFC Fight Night 181 in 2020.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley followed suit with his custom pink shorts at UFC 299 last month.
