The relationship that Katniss develops with rue, a tribute from the district 11 which reminds him of Prim, defines a large part of his experience in “The Hunger Games”. The pair becomes allies in the games after the street help Katniss recover from an attack by Jacker Tracker, and Katniss takes the street under his wing, nourishing and protecting it. They work together to Marvel, a tribute from District 1, Spears Rue. In response, Katniss dies it and she holds the street while furnishing, singing towards her.
Katniss also defies the Capitol by giving rue a funeral ship. His actions are contrary to hunger games, which oblige children – and districts – to see themselves as enemies. Katniss refuses to give the Capitol the story they want, taking care of the street even in death.
Likewise, Haymitch tries to protect two younger children in the arena: Lou Lou, a daughter of the district 11 who replaced Louella as double of the body after her death, and Ampert, the son of Beetee and a tribute from the district 3. He cares about them both when they find him during the games. However, he is finally unable to save them.
When the Capitol forces Lou Lou to slowly die of a toxic flower, Haymitch puts suffering. He also tries to run away with his body so that play players cannot take it, openly defying the Capitol until they offer it to abandon it by attacking it with mutant butterflies.
Later, game players take revenge on beeee by making the guardian of the mutant squirrels. Haymitch tries again to reprimand the Capitol in his honor, using an ax to try to tear the arena in response to the death of Ampert.
Haymitch and Katniss both see it as their duty to help these more helpless than them in the arena, and they are both willing to rebel against the Capitol in their honor.
