Condé Nast List reveals the best things to do in Chicago this summer – NBC Chicago

CondÞé Nast Traveler released a new list of the best things to do in the city of Chicago earlier this month, and while some of the usual suspects understandably made the cut, some under-the-radar deals were also highlighted by the publication.

The post certainly covered things most visitors to the city would recognize, including the Art Institute and Wrigley Field, but residents will recognize and appreciate the attention to detail on the list thanks to a few notable inclusions.

These include a visit to The Salt Shed concert venue, a performance space that resides in the former Morton Salt Works on the North Side.

Upcoming acts at the Salt Shed this summer include The Hold Steady, Tove Lo, Le Tigre and more.

Speaking of live music, the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge in Uptown also makes the list. The lounge, of course, serves delicious drinks, but also offers live jazz music and poetry performances.

For those looking for a bit of history, Midway Plaisance Park may do the trick. Located in Hyde Park, the Midway is a one-mile-long, 220-meter-wide public park, and was a centerpiece of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Jackson Park is on the east side of Midway, with the iconic Wooded Island, the Statue of the Republic, and other notable features dating back to the event that propelled Chicago onto the world stage.

Other notable sites, including the Garfield Park Conservatory and the urban kayaking activity along the Chicago River also made it to the list of 23 attractions to visit, which you can find on the Condé Nast website.
