Concert prevented by Civitas in Carnac: two people tried in March 2024 – Bretagne

On Saturday May 13, about thirty members of the far-right Catholic fundamentalist party Civitas had blocked the entrance to the church of Carnac, where the concert of the organist Kali Malone was to be held, an event supported by the Ministry of Culture. As she tried to enter the building, an elected official was then jostled by one of the people present. On Sunday morning, the mayor evoked a “slap”.

A complaint lodged

Faced with a particularly tense situation, and fearing more violence, the mayor of the town, Olivier Lepick, had resigned himself to canceling the concert. Subsequently, the elected official announced that he had filed a complaint for the jostling – with the agreement of his assistant – and for obstructing the holding of the concert.

On May 16, the Lorient prosecutor’s office announced that an investigation had been opened for obstruction of freedom of expression, undeclared demonstration on the public highway and intentional violence without incapacity on a person holding public authority.

“Spontaneous action”

This Wednesday, May 31, the public prosecutor, Stéphane Kellenberger, announced the prosecution of two people, as indicated by Ouest-France. The first, a 29-year-old from Morbihan, told investigators of a “spontaneous action”, but denied any hindrance.

A woman, coming from a neighboring department, admitted having been able to “slightly push” a person, without having known that it was an elected municipal official. The prosecutor clarified: “If the jostling seemed established by the elements gathered, nothing made it possible to retain this quality, neither apparent nor verbally declined”.

Concerted hindrance

They are both summoned to a correctional hearing at the Lorient judicial court, on March 13, 2024. The woman will thus have to answer for a ticket “of voluntary violence without incapacity”.

The 29-year-old defendant from Morbihan will have to answer for the heads of organization of a demonstration on the public highway without declaration and concerted hindrance with a threat to the exercise of freedom of expression.
