Asus enters the arena

Asus used Computex as a launchpad to announce a new line of ProArt laptops, using both the AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Snapdragon X Elite chipsets to make them full-featured Copilot+ PCs.

The range includes two 13.3-inch and one 16-inch devices, the PX13, PZ13 and P16 respectively. All three come with over 40 TOPS of NPU performance to boost those AI tasks and best of all, all three come with a ton of free software.

These computers are aimed at creators, which is why Asus offers a free 6-month subscription to CapCut and three months of Adobe Creative Suite. You can learn more about these laptops (and get a spec overview) here. All we’ll say is: watch out for Surface Pro 11!

The chips have fallen

Much of the discussion at Computex will focus on AI computing. The question of what powers the new Copilot+ line of PCs is an important question for anyone considering making a purchase.

We’ve already seen Qualcomm unveil the Snapdragon The company says it’s the “world’s best processor for Copilot+ PCs” and will accompany the Ryzen 9000 series of desktop processors offering, you guessed it, a focus on running workloads. AI work.

You can read the full story of the Ryzen AI 3000 series here, but rest assured we’ll do our best to get our hands on everything AMD has to offer us at this year’s show.

Everything comes together

The Computex show won’t officially open until tomorrow in Taipei, but we were able to take a sneak peek at some of the booths. Asus, MSI, Intel and all the other big players were out in force, but we also had the chance to see booths from some of our favorite accessory makers like UGREEN and NuPhy.

As we walked around the Computex show floor, many of the displays were still under construction. There were even trucks, cranes and a few bikes passing us as we took in the terrain. Besides new PCs and laptops, we’ve also seen quite a few SIM racing rigs as well as some impressive multi-monitor setups. We’ll be back on the show floor first thing tomorrow, so stay tuned for our latest coverage from the Computex 2024 field.

An Acer Aspire Vevo laptop made from recycled plastic at Computex 2024

This isn’t your typical laptop

Before even having the chance to visit the Computex show, we came across a unique laptop with a very interesting design. While other laptops use recycled components, the one at the registration desk features a chassis made entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic. Apparently it’s an Acer Aspire Vero with an Intel Evo chip under the hood.

I had the chance to test it out while waiting for our press badges and unlike the aluminum frames found on other laptops, the recycled plastic felt really soft on the palms of my hands. However, the laptop’s bezels were quite large and the E and R keys were reversed. Turns out, these eco-themed R&E keys on 50% post-consumer recycled plastic keys reinforce the call to reduce, reuse and recycle according to Acer. What I loved most about this Acer Aspire Vevo laptop is how the bits of white really stand out against its recycled blue chassis.

We arrived in Taipei

Tom’s Guide is on the ground in Taipei and ready to experience all the latest technology at Computex this year. Even though things don’t get underway until tomorrow, it’s clear that AI, and specifically AI wearables, will be the focus of this year’s show. We are heading back now to collect our press badges and see what has been set up so far.
