I only have one thing to say about President Trump’s proposal to reopen Alcatraz as a prison for ruthless offenders.
What took you so long to you?
The “rock”, as it was done for a while, is unnecessarily in the middle of the Bay of San Francisco, criminally underused as a tourist destination. I went there, and the beauty of the location is that when the drawbacks tried to go through the wall, the sharks were in service 24/7, working as unpaid prison guards.

Steve Lopez is from California who has been a columnist for Los Angeles Times since 2001. He has won more than a dozen national journalism awards and is a quadruple finalist in Pulitzer.
As Trump said, a guy tried to escape many years ago, and “they found his clothes, rather badly torn. It was a lot of shark bites, a lot of problems. ”
Speaking of problems, the criticisms who think that it is an idea of hazelnut say that it would cost a fortune to rebuild the dilapidated property, which once housed the tastes of Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly but which has been closed since 1963. A former Alcatraz tourist guide said there was no running water, no rescue.
Yes, but it’s a prison, not a spa. A “symbol of law and order”, in Trump’s words, which should know. After all, he is a condemned criminal.
Although I think Trump is on something here, my only one is to believe that he doesn’t think enough. California has a lot of underused resources, so let’s open our minds to the possibilities.

What if the Great America theme park was rebuilt as Make America again big? Children would love the RFK Jr. fluorine without fluoride slide.
(Summer Lin / Los Angeles Times)
Less than an hour south of Alcatraz, in Santa Clara, an amusement park called Great America has Tanking for decades, and the property has been sold to a developer in what could be the start of the end for the former bankrupt attraction.
But hold everything. I have an idea.
How about changing the name of Great America to make America great again?
Children will love the RFK Jr fluorine -free slide to the Gavin Newsom Dunk tank and get on the high -speed ice ride at the expulsion station.
I also have an idea of the neighboring Oakland Coliseum, which was roughly abandoned by football raiders and a baseball.
I grew up in this stadium and I can tell you that fans of raid, in particular, were not a shy lot. The word “enraged” can be a section, but let’s just say that they expressed themselves with little or no inhibition, just like the crew that has invaded and ransacked the American capitol while a joint session of the congress had the audacity to start formalizing the victory of Joe Biden
This gang of patriots was pardoned by President Trump, but I do not know if they have yet found work.
So here is the field:
What a self-respecting Trump fanatic, by wearing Maga, would not pay much money to look at live performance by live-good revolutionaries, American and forgiven heavy and forgiveness of January 6: where medieval times meet modern politics?
They could go to a complete gladiator to the acclamations of the crowd. Give them ropes and muskets, dress them in skins and look at them a replica of the Capitol, Smash Windows, chase curl politicians and attack the security forces like the heroes we know.

Maybe Hearst Castle could become the Western White House.
(Gemma Calilong)
Some of these proposals could be difficult to execute, I admit it, but not if another Californian benchmark is put to use:
Let’s turn Hearst’s castle in the Western White House.
The online lair on the newspaper newspaper William Randolph Hearst is currently a state park of the central coast, but, if you remember, Trump wrote a small book entitled “The art of agreement”. All he has to do is call Gov. Newsom and to say good, my friend, how much would you like to have more Forest Fire Relief Funds for Altadena and Pacific Palisades?
Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. galloped worldwide, playing a billion dollar hotel agreement in Dubai, a residential tower in Saudi Arabia and a golf course and a villa in Qatar, to which I say: “Bravo, boys”. But after so many years of public service, don’t you deserve to live in a castle?
Once installed in the Casa Grande of 115 rooms from San Siméon, the Trump brothers could make dad proud by focusing on the annoying coastal commission of the State, widening offshore drilling and bringing a touch of the experience of the Atlantic City on the West Coast.
Big sur is ok, but I can’t think of a single hotel there with a casino or a buffet of Côtes de Sky.
Imagine a Monterey Mar-A-Lago in the future close to California.
And how about a Trump Tower Torrance of 60 floors, with a rooftop practice and Golden Beach umbrellas.
The West White House could also lead interference for the founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, whose attempts to draw more rockets at the Vandenberg Space Force base were blocked by regulators of the above -mentioned coastal commission.
I say that the more moon there are, the better, and I’m talking about one -way trips. Load these rockets with political enemies, information media liars, bad hombres and lunatic judges. You can also add biomedical researchers and climatologists to manifesto because they will be without work anyway.
I’m just Spitball here, but I think Queen Mary could easily be reused as a floating prison, to manage the overflow of Alcatraz.
The Los Angeles Cathedral of Notre-Dame des Anges can be a satellite of the Vatican when Trump becomes Pope.
With its cryptographic wealth increasing by billion billion in recent months, Trump could resume the crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles and transform it into a personal piggy bank.
Rather than organizing a Royal Brunch on Sunday, perhaps Queen Mary could be reused as a floating prison – manipulating an overflow from Alcatraz.
(Jay L. Clendenin / Los Angeles Times)
And thanks to the prices, there could be enough space in all empty loading containers in the ports of and Long Beach to eliminate homelessness overnight.
Anything that can prevent you from making America again is a lack of imagination, so do not hesitate to send me your own ideas on how to better use existing resources. But first, let me share one more for me.
From the shores of Alcatraz, you can almost launch a frisbee on Angel island nearby, which is also largely underused. I went there, and it is a perfectly charming state park with a breathtaking 360 -degree view. But do you know what it was used for?
In the first half of the last century, hundreds of thousands of immigrants were treated, interviewed and detained on the island. And the barracks are still there.
What are we waiting for?
