Colorado Governor Jared Polis marries longtime partner

Jared Polis of Colorado, the first openly gay man to be elected governor of the United States, married longtime partner Marlon Reis on Wednesday.

“The biggest lesson we’ve learned over the past 18 months is that life as we know it can change in an instant,” Polis tweeted. “We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our life together as a married couple.”

The couple held a small outdoor ceremony in Boulder, chaired by Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, the governor’s office said.

Polis and Reis, writer and animal rights activist, have been together for 18 years. The governor proposed in December, just before Reis was hospitalized with COVID-19. The couple have two young children.
