College football SP+ rankings after CFP championship game

Despite losing to Michigan at the end of the regular season, Ohio State headed into the playoffs ranked first in SP+. The Buckeyes have given no reason for that to change in the weeks since. After the Buckeyes’ 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship – their fourth straight double-digit playoff victory – they officially finished the season atop the rankings. Notre Dame’s ranking fell slightly, mainly due to a logjam of tight teams ranked between fourth and eighth, but there is no doubt who was the best team in the 2024 season.
