Five people are “probably stranded in the rubble” of a three-story apartment building that collapsed overnight in Sanary-sur-Mer, in the Var, following an explosion whose origin is still undetermined at this stage, firefighters said on Tuesday.
The number of people “probably stranded” was established according to testimonies from the neighborhood, said the communications officer of the Var firefighters without being able to give details of their condition. Four other people were taken care of by the emergency services.
The building is located on the port of Sanary-sur-Mer, a town of about 15,000 inhabitants. Some 70 firefighters are mobilized for this operation and they will receive the reinforcement of teams specializing in rescue and clearance, including dog lovers.
