A wave of low pressure will develop over the southeastern United States, move northward, and pass east of Long Island and the New England coast Sunday evening. The system will move quickly, so snow amounts should be moderate for the Capital Region, with lower amounts as you move north and west.
The heaviest snowfall will likely be in areas just east and south of Albany. You can click on our snowfall projection map below to see the latest projections. Snow will begin to taper off after midnight and into the early morning hours of Monday, with dry conditions expected by sunrise. Following the storm’s departure, the coldest air of the season so far will settle into the region during the first half of next week. Generally dry weather is expected during this period, with the exception of a few lake effect snow showers possible in places on Monday. , mainly in areas to the west and northwest. A slow moderation in temperatures is expected for the latter part of the week, with values moderating a little, but no significant warming is expected. Thursday and Friday are also expected to be generally dry at this stage, although a few snow showers are not on the agenda on Friday as a weak upper altitude disturbance approaches.
