The Go-Go had soared through half a dozen songs, many of which are deep from their first album “Beauty and the Beat”, when Billie Joe Armstrong penetrated on stage on Friday afternoon.
The crowd of the outdoor scene has Rugi while the leader of the Green Day, whose group makes Coachella’s head on Saturday, joined Go-Go’s singer, Belinda Carlisle, on “Head Over Helsels”, taking the main voice and adding her guitar to those of Go-Go-Go guitarists Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine.
Fridays in Coachella start a little slowly, even more a day when temperatures exceeded 100 degrees before the doors opened at 1 p.m.
However, those who arrived early had many great artists to choose. Our music team has scattered through the festival’s fields looking for special moments such as Armstrong’s surprise appearance in Go-Go’s set. Here is what they found at the Festival of Music and the Arts of Coachella Valley in Indio on Friday.
Glixen
While the sun was not looking in the sky, Glixen brought a dark force of nostalgia from the 90s to the tent of Sonora. The group dressed in black and sports jeans on hip and studded belts, a reminder at the time when the hot subject was the strangest store in the shopping center. The music of the Shoegaze outfit of Phoenix, Arizona, could easily be part of a horror soundtrack in the early 2000s.

You sacred souls
Thee Sacred Souls brought a wave of soul and romance to the old school to the Coachella scene with a set that opened up on a high note with “Go see you again?” The crowd swayed while the main singer Josh Lane asked: “Has anyone already experienced a romantic relationship that does not work?” Before slipping into the smooth groove of “easier to say than to do”. Their live horns section added a beautiful warmth, bringing a nostalgic mix of chicano soul and classic R&B. Before closing, they encouraged fans to say to someone he loves them, saying, “If there is someone you love right now, tell them that they are facilitating the task.” The group delivered a sincere performance of their most loved songs as “can i call you pink”, reminding the crowd why they are so remarkable in the revival of the modern soul.
Go-go
The Go-Go set also presented the complete meeting of the group with the drummer Gina Schock who had joined for the first time since 2022. Their set opened with “Vacation”, then plunged into the past with songs such as “Skidmarks on My Heart” and “Unforgiven”.
Their set culminated after Armstrong left the scene with “This Town” and “Our lips are sealed” before ending with “We Got the Beat” crushed with “Hot To Go” by Chappell Roan. —Pet Larsen
Austin Millz
Austin Millz brought his mixture of hip-hop music and dance music and made the crowd feels well in the Sahara tent. What started as a small audience quickly made snowball in avalanches of dancers and fans giving their best ooh-oooh-ahs. Millz also delivered an energetic set by mixing Sean Paul and Panic! to the nightclub that corresponded to the festive atmosphere in the crowd. He mentioned that it was special to be able to occur in Coachella, and he reciprocated it with a set of celebration for which the EDM music of Coachella is known.

Ball joint
The rap trio of the west of Belfast in Northern Ireland delivered a noisy whole in the Sonora’s tent, mixing party hymns with political hats against the British domination of their homeland. Rapping mainly in Irish with profane and hilarious jokes between the songs – “Let’s turn it a little!” The fans danced and swallowed throughout.
“We are not used to this heat,” said the crowd. “Our Irish pasty skin collapses.”
The protruding facts of the whole included “Better Way to Live” and “Take out your British.” Hood “closed their performance with the members of the Móglaí Bap ball joint, and the DJ Próvaí in turn surfing on the hands of the fans. – Peter Larsen
Julie
The Rock Grunge group based on OC, Julie, revealed the energy to the Sonora’s scene at midday around 5 p.m., their set leaned over the raw sound and attitude, with flashy mosh pits throughout. Although Light on pleasant internship, they let music speak, offering a grainy and unadorned performance that resonated with longtime fans. Their farewell – “Hi … it’s our last song” – kept the mystery intact and equaled their discreet punk ethics. The highlights of the whole were the tracks “skipping tiles”, “flutter” and “kit”.
Djo
Coachella has always included talents that have made their way to the big screen on the scene, and this year, it was the turn of the star of Stranger Things. Djo pronounced (your supposition is as good as mine) delivered a performance to the Mojave tent. Fans were not there to support one of their favorite actors; They really felt music, sang the long and encourage their sweet and groovy Indies favorites, including “End of the Beginning”, which had the crowd so hard that you could hear them in the neighboring gobi tent. Kerry is a natural interpreter, and if you had never seen him on the screen, there would be no questions that he would be deeply in his musical career. Who can say where he heads then? Anyway, he clearly appreciates the ride.

Lola Young
The singer-songwriter Lola Young comes from the same musical district as Amy Winehouse and Adele, a moving R&B sound mixed with personal confessional voices. At 24, his escape began last year with the single “Messy”.
Picking up in a crowded Mojave tent, with hundreds of fans who look from outside, the powerful voice of Young delivered chills on “You Noted” and made the crowd dance to the finish of “Messy” and “Conceited”, two of the songs that have accelerated his career in recent months.
That she did everything after falling physically ill, asking for a bucket and left the scene for a month after her first song, made her performance on Friday all the more impressive. —Pet Larsen
Tyla
Tyla, the South African Breakout Pop star, made her intimate coachella debut – even if she had the whole crowd in the open air at her fingertips. “This is my first time at Coachella,” she told fans. “You give me so much energy.” This energy was mutual. Halfway through her set, she surprised the crowd by bringing out Becky G for their collaboration “On My Body”, sending fans in a howling frenzy. It was a gentle moment between two powerful artists, especially since Becky G has a story with Coachella – she interpreted her own set in 2022 and made an appearance by the guests last year during the Peso Pluma set. Tyla closed with her viral tube “Water” and the romantic “Make Me Sway”, dancing while being completely soaked, something she is already known to do.
Benson Boone
Towards the end of the energetic energy of Benson Boone, he announced that his second album “American Heart” would fall this year on June 20 to a dense crowd of howling fans. As if the public was not already excited, Boone then took the scene for his next song, wearing an imperial dress of a monarch before entering “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. He embodied Freddie Mercury with his range and his presence on stage, but then, in a unique movement, he dropped the dress before hitting one of his signature backflips. The highest point of performance was the guitarist of Queen Brian May who rises from a platform under the scene to play the emblematic guitar riffs alongside Boone. The crowd was unleashed!
