CNN slams Harris for using Trump’s border wall in campaign ad after years of condemning it
A CNN report revealed Wednesday how Vice President Kamala Harris is using images of former President Trump’s border wall after years of condemning it as “unnecessary” and un-American.
On CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront,” host Erin Burnett spoke to CNN’s KFile editor Andrew Kaczynski about how Harris’ past comments about Trump’s border wall are “coming back to haunt” her.
Kaczynski found 50 instances where Harris criticized Trump’s border wall, but now her campaign is featuring the border wall in its ads.

After Harris’ campaign ad showing part of the wall aired, Burnett recalled how Harris criticized the wall in her 2019 book, “The Truths We Hold,” writing that the wall was not only “useless” but would be “a monument to not only everything I value, but to the core values on which this country was built.” Harris also argued that the wall symbolically says to the world, “KEEP OUT.”
Additionally, Harris has condemned the wall as a “misuse of taxpayer dollars.” In a clip released at a public event in 2016,9 Harris called the border wall a “vanity project” and claimed that Trump “has created a national crisis around his great distraction.”
Kaczynski pointed out that the border wall featured in Harris’ ad was part of it that was built under the Trump administration.
“This is part of the wall that was built by Donald Trump. It was built in an area where there was no wall before, it was actually quite controversial when it was built at the time,” he said.

Burnett asked: “She’s using the wall he built to say, ‘Look what I did’?”
Kaczynski also speculated that other images of the wall in the ad showed “telltale signs” of construction under the Trump administration, as they featured anti-climb plates at the top, which became popular during the Trump era.
