Cluster bomb attack in Belgorod, Ukraine kills five, governor says — RT Russia & Former Soviet Union

Five civilians were killed and 37 injured, including six children, in a Ukrainian missile attack on Russia’s Belgorod region, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

Located north of Kharkov, Ukraine’s second city, Belgorod is under frequent attack from Ukrainian long-range artillery, often firing NATO-supplied projectiles.

“Our air defense system operated over Belgorod and several targets were shot down as they approached the city,” Gladkov said this on Telegram on Friday evening. “To our great sadness, one person died following a direct impact with a passenger car.”

Besides the vehicle, an apartment building and several commercial buildings were hit, Gladkov said.

The governor later updated the death toll to five.

“A woman and four men died on the spot from their injuries before ambulances arrived,” Among the injured, seven adults and three children are in serious condition.

According to Gladkov, the attack was carried out with cluster munitions delivered by the Vampire multiple launch rocket system. The same weapon, supplied to Ukraine by the Czech Republic, was used in the Christmas market massacre last December, when 25 Russian civilians were killed and 100 others injured by Ukrainian cluster munitions.

The attack also caused material damage to three residential buildings in the city, as well as two commercial buildings. Two houses in the nearby village of Dubovoye were set on fire by the missiles, but the fire was quickly brought under control by emergency services.
