Clunes: presumed poisoning by a mushroom drink; woman dies and two others rushed to hospital during health retreat

A woman has died and two other people are in hospital after allegedly drinking a mushroom drink at a health retreat in the regional town of Clunes, near Ballarat, over the weekend.

Victoria Police detectives have confirmed they are investigating the incident, which left a 53-year-old woman dead on Saturday.

The woman from RIngwood North in Melbourne’s east fell ill and died shortly after midday on Saturday, The Age reported.

Two other people were taken to hospital for observation.

The death occurred at Soul Barn, which is billed as an “alternative and holistic health service” on its Facebook page.

On Sunday, a post said it would be closed for business and that people who booked for its “sound healing” sessions would be refunded.

Clunes made national news last week following another tragic death.

Located 33km north of Ballarat, west of Melbourne, Hannah McGuire had made Clunes her home before she was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner.

Lachlan Young, 21, has been charged with her murder.
