Clippers unveil new Intuit Dome video board with storm effect, T-shirt cannon and more

The Los Angeles Clippers unveiled to reporters Friday the double-sided “Halo Board” that wraps around the roof of the soon-to-open Intuit Dome.

The Intuit Dome is expected to open in August, ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season and the 2026 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Athletic’s Ohm Youngmisuk provided a preview of the Halo’s technological capabilities.

Some Halo Board effects incorporate lights built into the seats, such as a “storm” effect that causes simulated lightning to flash across the arena.

The Halo Board, developed by video display company Daktronics, spans nearly an acre in total. The display covers 38,375 square feet and uses more than 233 million LEDs, according to the Clippers.

The team described the scoreboard as “the largest double-sided halo display ever installed in an arena.”

Youngmisuk gave a sneak peek at some of the player displays and fancams that can be displayed on the Halo board during Clippers games.

The Clippers initially identified the Halo Board as a method to “prioritize the viewing experience of the upper bowl seats.”

Views aren’t the only thing the upper decks gain from the new board, which is also equipped with T-shirt cannons that can send goods into the upper levels of the arena, Youngmisuk reported.

The Intuit Dome is scheduled to open on August 15, with Bruno Mars performing at the grand opening. The Clippers are expected to debut in the new stadium in October.
