Clair Obscur Expedition 33 wins its first Game of the Year award

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 just won the coveted Game of the Year award at the massive Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show event. This is the first GOTY awarded to Clair Obscur Expedition 33 so far, but it’s likely the first of many as Clair is expected to earn more before the end of 2025.

The event in Thailand attracted a massive crowd of 206,159 attendees, and Clair Obscur Expedition 33 dominated the evening by taking home the most trophies. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 set to win more GOTY awards

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is expected to win more Game of the Year awards before the end of 2025. It currently leads the most nominations for the Golden Joystick Awards and is aiming for a historic Grammy nomination for the video game industry.

Of course, the biggest event remains Geoff Keighely’s Game Awards, scheduled for December 11. There are no nominations yet, but Clair Obscur Expedition 33 appears to be a favorite for Game of the Year and many other categories.

With Expedition 33 expected to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards, the game’s director revealed that he’s backing Megabonk instead.

Since its release earlier this year, Expedition 33 has received praise from across the gaming industry. Other developers hailed it as a masterpiece showing publishers that gamers don’t want live services, and the game’s success was even recognized by Final Fantasy creator Square Enix.

Fans can expect more from the series as Sandfall has confirmed that Expedition 33 is “not the end” of the franchise. The developer is starting work on their next game, and they promised fans that it would be “crazy” and true to the “studio’s DNA.”
