City of Tampa receives nearly $2 million for affordable housing programs – CBS Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (CW44 News At 10) — The City of Tampa has received nearly $2 million to fund one of its affordable housing programs.

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it would distribute more than $100 million to nonprofit organizations and state and local government agencies, to protect children and families against household health risks.

The City of Tampa will dedicate these funds to its homeowner-occupied rehabilitation program, and more specifically, to pay for home inspections and a new set of repairs that address home health risks.

Through this program, income-eligible homeowners can receive repairs and replacements worth up to $50,000 that bring their home into compliance with Florida building code and quality housing standards. from the city. The scope of work includes roofing, air conditioning, electricity and plumbing. Not only will HUD’s supplemental grant cover initial inspections where home health risks are identified, but it will also expand the program to include mold, lead paint and radon remediation.

“Helping families stay in their existing homes is part of our affordable housing initiative,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “This program has allowed us to improve living conditions and bring peace of mind to hundreds of homeowners who otherwise could not afford expensive repairs. We are thrilled to learn of HUD’s generous grant and are thrilled that it is also resulting in a more resilient and sustainable housing inventory.
