A 56 -year -old Hispanic man was fatally killed by Chula Vista police officers on Saturday morning in front of a house in Bonita after the man refused several orders to drop his weapon, then pointed him to the police, the authorities said.
The incident took place around 5:41 am when the police responded to a family disturbance involving a firearm in a house near Country Vistas Lane and Bonita Canyon Drive, according to the San Diego Police Service.
The police who responded to Chula Vista located family members hiding outside. Later, they met the man now died when he left the house with a firearm, police said.
“(The officers) began to communicate with the subject, ordering him to put his hands in the air. While the man withdrew his hands from his pockets, he dropped a gun on the steps leading to the residence. The man was ordered to move away from the firearm, but he sat down on his knees,” said the San Diego police.
The suspect, who for several minutes ignored several other orders to put his hands and drop the pistol, was initially struck with a rifle of beans, which made him fall back and place the pistol, according to the police.
“The police continued to give men to the man. He finally picked up the weapon and pointed him towards the police as he was starting to sit from the ground,” the police said. “Three police officers pulled their department rifles striking the man who was still sitting on the steps.”
The man, who has undergone several ball wounds, was transported to the hospital where he died.
The three officers who pulled their rifles were not identified. The three officers were equipped with cameras carried on the body, who recorded the incident. The incident was also recorded with drone equipment from the Chula Vista police service.
The Homicides Division of the San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident within the framework of a county -scale protocol to prevent agencies from investigating their own officers. The investigation will be examined by the office of the County Prosecutor of San Diego, and the Chula Vista police service will conduct an administrative investigation into the liberation of officers of their firearms.
