With the holiday season already in mind, Chicago’s annual Christkinlmarket is slated to open downtown and the Wrigleyville neighborhood in November.
The popular winter festival kicks off at Daley Plaza, located at 50 W. Washington St., and Gallagher Way, at 3635 N. Clark St., on November 19.
At Daley Plaza, Christkindlmarket will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well as Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The market will run until December 24.
In Wrigleyville, the festival will welcome visitors until December 31, Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., then again on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. This place is also open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Christkindlmarket will be open during holiday hours for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At Christmas, both locations will be closed.
The festival, which is in its 25th year in Chicago, is inspired by the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, organizers said. It “brings to Chicago a cherished German and European tradition with an international twist and local charm.”
The big city festival was canceled last year in 2020 and reinvented as a virtual event in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to the last holiday season, vendor purchases will still be available online closer to opening.
