Chris Paul and Spurs agree to one-year, $11M-plus deal – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Chris Paul didn’t stay in NBA free agency for long.

The former Warriors point guard, waived by Golden State on Sunday, agreed to a one-year, more than $11 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs three hours later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported, citing sources .

Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report was the first to report that Paul intended to sign with the Spurs, noting Sunday that 12-time All-Star point guard and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had a “great” conversation.

Paul’s reported deal with San Antonio is $19 million less than what he would have been paid by Golden State for the 2024-25 NBA season.

Paul should provide a young San Antonio team with a proven facilitator after playing a key role on the Warriors bench last season. “The Point God” averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game in 58 appearances with Golden State, and he will now likely start alongside San Antonio’s second-year phenom Victor Wembanyama.

Free agency is well underway, and although the Warriors opted not to pay Paul the $30 million he was owed in 2024-25, it’s clear that one of their Western Conference opponents sees value in likely Hall of Famer. However, Spurs landed him for much less, and now Paul will look to prove that he remains one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
