Chris Hemsworth to direct GI Joe-Transformers crossover film

Chris Hemsworth doubles down on Transformers. The actor is in talks to direct an untitled crossover film for Paramount and Hasbro Entertainment that would bring together the Transformers and GI Joe franchises, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

This marks a second Transformers project for Hemsworth, who stars in the upcoming Transformers One animated film, which arrives in theaters on September 20.

The proposed film follows the events of last year Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which ended with Anthony Ramos’ Noah Diaz receiving a job offer from the Joes. Director Steven Caple Jr. put the ending to the script at the encouragement of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with the filmmakers knowing it might take some maneuvering to get there.

“The studio reacted positively and they were just like, ‘Well, how can we do this?’ “How can we achieve this?'” Caple said THR last year, noting that there was a crossover graphic novel that could serve as inspiration. “It took almost two years to go through the whole system, talk to everyone and get an idea. »

Caple, at one point, considered the crossover feature, but was not committed to it. It’s unclear whether a writer or director is currently on the film, which will be produced by di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy. Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment are executive producers.

Hemsworth, who became a global celebrity playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has just left Furiosa: A Mad Max saga. His notable roles also include directing the Netflix action film Extraction franchise.
