Chris Cuomo says he’s hurt and embarrassed to be suspended indefinitely as a prime-time CNN host.
A day after the cable news network distanced itself from the top-rated host, Cuomo addressed the issue on Wednesday on his SiriusXM satellite radio show, Let’s go after.
“Quick note on the obvious – I was suspended from CNN,” he told listeners.
“You already know that. It even hurts to say it. It’s embarrassing, but I understand it. And I understand why some people feel what they feel,” Cuomo said.
CNN announced Cuomo’s suspension on Tuesday after new revelations surfaced detailing his efforts to help his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, respond to an ongoing sexual harassment scandal.
A mine of documents, emails and texts released by the New York attorney general’s office, showed the anchor used his contacts to dig into the governor’s accusers. They also show that he consulted various sources to help Elder Cuomo deal with the sexual misconduct scandal that led to his resignation in August.
“The documents, of which we were not aware prior to their public release, raise serious questions,” CNN said in a statement.
“The last thing I wanted to do was compromise a coworker or do something other than help,” Cuomo said in the first minute of the radio show.
“I’ve apologized in the past,” Cuomo added.
CNN has said Cuomo will no longer air indefinitely, pending review.
