Chris Cuomo breaks silence on CNN suspension

CNN host Chris Cuomo broke his silence over his indefinite suspension from the corporate news network following new revelations about his involvement in the efforts of his brother, former Governor Andrew Cuomo (R), to defend against associations of sexual misconduct.

“It hurts to say it. It’s embarassing. But I understand it. And I understand why some people feel what they feel about what I’ve done. I’ve apologized in the past, and I really mean it, ”Cuomo said on his SiriusXM radio show. “It’s the last thing I ever wanted to do, was compromise one of my coworkers and do something other than help. I know they have a process that they think is important. I respect this process, so I’m not going to talk about it more than that.

On Tuesday, CNN reported that documents released by the New York attorney general indicated that Cuomo was more involved in his brother’s campaign than network executives previously knew – and thus removed the host from the air.

“The New York attorney general’s office released transcripts and exhibits on Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense,” CNN said in a statement. “The documents, of which we were not aware prior to their public release, raise serious questions. “

“When Chris admitted to us that he offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules and we publicly admitted it,” the statement continued. “But we also appreciated the unique position he found himself in and understood his need to put family first and work second.”

“However, these documents indicate a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously thought. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation, ”he concluded.

The CNN presenter lobbied sources for information about his brother’s accusers and reported to the governor’s staff. His office alleges Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed at least 11 women.

Cuomo had previously admitted speaking to his brother and offering him advice when the governor faced harassment charges. But information released on Monday revealed many more details, including allegations he was looking for dirt on the women accusing his brother. Andrew Cuomo resigned in August to avoid a likely impeachment trial.
